Island Friends Together is a bona fide Jersey Charity and a member of the Association of Jersey Charities.
The Charity was initially formed just after the Boxing Day Tsunami in December 2004.
Our aim then was to support the displaced people affected by the Tsunami.
We were able to provide a large school building on the north east coast of Sri Lanka for the 300+ displaced pupils for just £19,000 and a building for 40 orphaned children for just £15,000.
We did this by raising money ourselves and also from a generous contribution from the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission, St George’s Preparatory School in St Peter, Jersey and Rotary Club de la Manche, Jersey.
Since then we have continued to help these children, and also extremely poor families, by sending items needed for their everyday life in general as well as their education.
